Independence Day Pitures

Independence Day 2010

15th August has a lot of positive symbolism, as we have grown on the staple diet of stories of how India got its independence from the clutches of the brits. Twitter is full of Happy Independence day messages with people believing that India is the next big superpower. Yes we will be big, and may be in some sense a superpower too, but we are far from the being the best in the world. Our value system as a country will not allow us to be the best. Being the best is about excellence, of having higher goals that mere 8% GDP growth, of being a fair and an honest society which respects individuals etc. We are far from any of those things and I do not think that our values as a nation are driving us in that direction.

Simran & Arjun: Right now Simran is singing Jaane Jaan in half memorised lyrics and very very toneless with Good Good Singh lying next to her and kicking about. I am so hyper about Simran being perfect at everything that I start wondering that has she picked up the toneless singing from her father. Then I remember Tony Buzan's words from Mind Mapping saying that nobody is toneless, it's just that their ability is not developed. A Voice in my head tells me to stop being Hyper. But it is heart warming to see the two of them play and cackle. Arjun is getting cuter by the day. Other than hollering and eating, he has started to smile. He is such a cute bundle; it is pleasure to pick him up and give him all the kisses you can as he is not going to say anything. So he gets smothered with kisses from all through the day. TSRS is now a day's focussing on teaching children phonetics. So Simran is all the time braking words in phonetic pieces. L-A-D-OOO, LADDOO. We have a lot of fun doing it. She has been very regular this week with no tantrums this morning. Her school did some celebrations around Independence Day. Simran was supposed to be in ethnic wear. Her excitement about ethnic wear started almost a day in advance as she went about trying many ghagra choli and then selecting one of them. In the morning when I saw her dressed i couldn't help smiling as there she was, with perfectly matched shoes, hair band, bangles (atleast 40 on both hands put together). She quite enjoyed getting ready and getting to school that day. For me taking her to school has become one very enjoyable experience as it gives me 25 minutes of exclusive time with her where I listen to things she has to say....more on that later. Signing off .....Cheers

Bhangra Blogs

So here I am writing again second day in row. Actually I am quite excited about finding this feature in Microsoft Office where you can type in blog on the blog post document and then it gets uploaded on blogger. This way I might just a get a little more regular with blogging.

Not too exciting a Sunday for me though friends were home today and I was hoping for a great day, but it got a bit spoiled for two reasons (a) Stuff at Office... just got very irritated when stuff at office interrupted me when friends were around (b) There is so much pending stuff to be done at home and is getting delayed...my biggest irritation is with not able to file taxes. I want to finish it but for some reason i am not getting started.

Simran had a good time playing with MahiRaj. She does not have friends around and I was happy to see her play and spend the day having fun.BTW....today is friendship day and I had a good time creating a very original SMS....yeh dosti, hum nahin chorenge, chorenge dum magar tera saath na....... dosti ke is mahaparv ko mera salam.

Happy Friendship Day.

Simran: First steps towards Independence

31st July 2010: Today when I was dropping Simran to her class, she decided that she wanted me to leave her alone on top of the stairs and she will make way to her own class. I was a little surprised by her confidence. Since her bag was a little heavy due the show & tell stuff in it. I proposed that can I go down the stairs with her and handover the bag. She was sure, she wanted the bag on top of the stairs and then she got down the cemented stairs, holding the handrail, going through the gallery which had classrooms on both sides. I was watching her for any signals of weakness, but she didn't look back, confidently strolling through and turning towards her class. I was happy..very happy and satisfied about her progress towards growing up. Power to her.
